Welcome to the Building and Civil Engineering department of the Coast Institute of Technology. The department which started over 20 years ago with a small student population of less twenty and few trainers has over the years grown to its current student population of over two hundred and fifty trainees and eleven trainers.

The department offers the following Modular courses examined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC);

  • Certificate in Building Construction Technology Module I and II
  • Diploma in Building Construction Technology Module I, II and III
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology Module I, II and III

 The other courses to be rolled out soon under the Competency-Based Curriculum to be examined by CDACC are; Building Technician Level 6 and Plumbing Level 3.

Building and civil engineering department strives to produce skilled workforce for the rapidly growing building and construction industry. Our trainees are taken through theoretical and practical lessons in their areas of training before proceeding for a mandatory industrial attachment at a busy building and construction site, civil construction works, survey works or a drawing office.

In the Institute our trainees are engaged in any college construction works or repairs so as to give them a gainful experience in their areas of training. Notable examples of what our trainees have managed to do is the construction of a masonry workshop, painting works, laying of paving slabs within the college amongst others.
