The department was established in 2009 with a population of 3 trainees. Currently the population has grown to over 200 trainees and a staff establishment of 13 trainers.
The department offers Certificate and Diploma courses that aim at producing competent graduates who can work in analytical research institutions.
The department has fully equipped laboratories and a team of competent trainers who have a wealth of experience in scientific research and knowledge
HOD APPLIED SCIENCE - MARY WANJIRU
VISION: To be a center of excellence in the provision of technical skills in pure and applied sciences.
MISSION: To produce fully equipped 21st Century Research scientists, Technicians and Technologists.
The examination bodies are:
- Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC)
- National Industrial Training Authority (NITA)
- Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council (CDACC)
The projected focus of the department is to expand the training of diploma courses by offering Higher National Diploma certificate courses in the said fields in order to produce enough competent manpower to meet the requirements of vision 2030.

Applied science plays an instrumental role in providing assistance to students with all aspects to student development including career explorations and planning, linkage between the industry and the students, career guidance to students, graduate tracker services, building professional networks and connect employers and students through career fairs such as company information sessions, provides support with planning and execution of career related events and projects, mentorship programs and soft skills development programs while still on college
